Happy New Year Girlies!
Well Sisters, here we are on the last day of 2017 and I can’t believe just how far our little group has come.
In May I decided to start running because I realised I had no hobbies unless of course you count stain removal and bleaching man p!** off the bathroom tiles as a hobby. I’m not one to do stuff by halves so I decided to attempt Couch to Marathon in a year. I knew I couldn’t do it alone so I told Jaq Termini that she was doing it too, then in desperation – after the sudden realisation that we didn’t know what we were doing – I set up SwB. I wanted friends to join to give me advice and support – basically, make me get out the door and run – I wanted a group without ego for female runners of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and abilities. Ladies – Sisters – who could make the experience less painful and to give me a chuckle or two along the way.
I didn’t actually think I would get any more than about 100 Sisters to join but within a few months we are at over 4,000 members, whom I’m hugely grateful to because I have learned so much from you all – and have belly laughed every day because of your hilariously honest posts.
Its all too easy to assume I’m solely responsible for the running of Sisters with Blisters but as most know, there are some very funny ladies orchestrating and grafting to get it where it is today – and pushing the group to wrestle into their sports bras on and get on out there. SwB would be dead in the water if it wasn’t for Rachael Bateman and Ruth Harris whom I couldn’t have achieved anything without – so thank you, ladies.
Ruth emigrates to Dubai in a few days – which will be a challenge as nobody can f*$k stuff up like she can – but her parting gift to us was a SwB website and fabulous SwB kit! Nobody is more amazed than we are because she is a total liability most of the time so there may be a few teething problems to start with, so please bare with us.
On the website, you will notice there’s a shop. We are busy working mums and to prevent us from also being single mums we – presently – can only process orders once a month. This will improve as we get more efficient at standing in Post Office queues and yes we can do international postage. When I say ‘we’ I actually mean ‘me’ because one has buggered off to Dubai, and the other is busy being important and refuses to stand in a queue unless its for something free.
Medals are being designed as we speak and will be available to view in a couple of weeks. Each medal sold will have a certain amount of its profits sent to the top 4 charities chosen in the SwB poll earlier this week.
Ruth explained that initially only 25 orders can be taken which is something to do with her not being dodgy and ensuring we’re not money laundering but after the initial 25 orders are cleared the system will work perfectly. I think that’s what she said but I wasn’t really listening because I was slightly giddy with gin
So basically, to round off our SwB 2017 success we have a website for 2018! You can buy stuff! Oh and apparently I am now a blogger which Ruth and Rachael think I can easily fit in between work, trips to the Post Office, training for a Marathon, a Half Iron Man and bleaching p!**y tiles.
Happy Running Sisters – we’re going to nail 2018 😘
